  • Alpine Cars has worked in collaboration with BWT Alpine F1 Team and Artificial Intelligence Artist collective Obvious to design the ‘Art car’ which takes inspiration from the brand’s racing heritage and deep-rooted DNA in the Alps
  • Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon are set to meet Obvious and see the A110 Sastruga in the flesh for the first time, after it was revealed to the world last month at the Art Paris modern and contemporary art fair
  • Elements of the work carried out by Alpine and Obvious are to be on display throughout the Monaco Grand Prix weekend

Alpine is excited to reveal its A110 Sastruga will debut on the world-famous streets of Monte Carlo today, as it embarks on its first-ever active drive at the hands of BWT Alpine F1 Team Reserve Driver and the team’s rising star Oscar Piastri.

Revealed at the Art Paris modern and contemporary fair last month, the Alpine A110 Sastruga is a unique artist crossover between Alpine Cars, its Formula 1 team and renowned artificial intelligence artist, Obvious.

Taking inspiration from Alpine’s sporting prowess, the A110 Sastruga uses the creative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) and algorithms to display a unique imaginary snow themed circuit on the body of the car in an ode to Alpine’s DNA in the Alps. A Sastruga is formed by erosion of snow by wind on a solid surface, marked by wave-like forms.

Further touches of Obvious’ unique work can be seen with BWT Alpine F1 Team during the Grand Prix weekend in Monaco, with artistic displays on the A522 and subtle differences inside the team’s garage and hospitality.

Oscar will drive the A110 Sastruga on Thursday ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix at 12:30 in front of the watchful eyes of his teammates Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso.

Laurent Rossi, Alpine CEO:

On the same weekend we celebrate Jean Rédélé’s 100th anniversary in Dieppe, we are very excited to see this marvellous creation have its first taste of a Formula 1 circuit. What is more special than doing it here in Monaco, whose heart beats with passion for motorsport, just like our founder. Alpine has always an artistic, elegant side and we share the same artistic vision of combining past and future, creativity with technology as Obvious. For Alpine, art is the perfect meeting point of elegance and technique. I can’t wait to see the car and details we have with us at the Monaco Grand Prix.

BWT Alpine F1 Team competes in the FIA Formula One World Championship with race winner Esteban Ocon and double world champion Fernando Alonso. Led by Laurent Rossi, in its first year of competition in 2021 the team secured one race win at the Hungarian Grand Prix and one podium in the Qatar Grand Prix to finish fifth in the teams’ championship. Alpine is the French-style sports car brand founded in 1955 by Jean Rédélé and is now the dedicated brand for innovative, authentic and exclusive sports cars of the Renault Group. A wider Business Unit allows Alpine to benefit from the heritage and know-how of its historic Dieppe factory and the engineering expertise of BWT Alpine F1 Team, Alpine Racing and Alpine Cars teams.
